Questions to consider when thinking about a website

We often get enquiries along the lines of: "Hi. I need a website. How much do you charge?", which is fair enough, but obviously we need more information to answer that question accurately.

At this point, we could point them towards our web design page but we appreciate that setting up a business can be very time consuming. We try to help as much as we can and have added the below details to give you an idea of the sort of information that would be helpful to us.

Here is a list of questions that we would ask in order to give you a decent response. The questions will basically build a brief which we can then write a proposal to. If you have a brief already, double check it based on the information below to ensure everything is covered:

Do you have a budget?

That is right. Straight to the nitty gritty. In order to take an enquiry further we need to know that what you require matches any budget you have in mind for the project. There is no point putting together a proposal if the budget is not there. It would be a waste of time for both parties.

Proposals can often be written to get a balance between your budget and the requirements of the project, with non-essential elements removed to suit each budget.

Do you have a deadline?

This is crucial information to us so that we know what time scales we're working to.

Again, projects can often be staged to some extent to suit deadlines, and - depending on the project - in some cases we may be able to schedule our workload to suit project needs.

Do you require a logo?

If you don't have a logo but require one - no problem! We will be happy to set this all up for you (for a small fee of course!)

Do you have a list of pages you need on your website?

It is helpful if you already have and idea of what pages you feel you need and the elements you expect to see. This will give an idea of what will need costing in to the project.

Will you require a content management system, and/or more advanced dynamic site such as a blog and e-commerce?

If you know your site is going to be updated frequently then you may want to consider a Content Management System site which although is more expensive than your normal "run of the mill" site, will be cheaper in the long run as you have the complete freedom to add and remove pictures and text yourself (rather than us doing it for you) but if you don't feel comfortable in doing this then we would be more than happy to arrange this for you.

Do you already have a web presence?

Be it just a holding page or an entire website, the implications of already having a site will affect the price for development and could possibly even make it that bit cheaper for you (unless you're looking for a re-design of course!)

Do you require hosting and a domain name?

We recommend that if you are starting from scratch on a project, that we deal with your hosting and domain name requirements. We have our own servers and are therefore able to offer you a much better deal than other "shared" hosting companies out there - Plus, if we design your web site for you, you would get 1 years of FREE hosting and a FREE domain name of your choice all included in the package so what have you got to lose?

Of course, if you are happy with your current hosting provider then that's entirely up to you. You are under no obligation to host your site with us. The choice is yours.

Would you be able to supply all resource and background material in a digital format?

This would include logo and branding material (perhaps brand guidelines) and also a brief / spec / background. It is also useful to have any content and images but don't worry if you don't have any of these. We will be happy to deal with this for you.

Why not get in touch with us now?

As with all of our affordable web design packages as standard, we will submit your finished website to all of the major search engines and we will start you off by optimising your site with basic SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
After purchasing you chosen package, should you feel that you need more space or options then that's no problem. You can easily move up to the next available package (or whatever package you need) at a reduced price taking into consideration the money you have already paid.
We will be happy to make updates / alterations to your website for you after completion for a small additional cost per page (unless you have opted for a CMS site where you will have the freedom to update, add and remove content yourself).
